Heritage Day at Wildacres – 21st August 2026
From: €10.00
Curious to discover the joy of connecting with nature at Wildacres? Interested to experience how we have converted land into a nature reserve and biodiversity education centre? Want to know about our Biodiversity Monitoring Project 2026 and get some hands-on practical experience in how to conduct a Flower-Insect Timed Count, learn about the six most common bumblebee species in Ireland, discover the fascinating creatures in sampling trays from a sample of our 67 ponds and find out what native aquatic plants support this diversity of life!
We’re delighted to offer this experience at a nonimal fee thanks to funding from the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme. They have kindly supported this project to monitor Bumblebee species and Pondlife at Wildacres from May to October this year. And we will share with you the results so far.
You can choose between four different time slots. Upon arrival at your chosen time, our expert guide will take you on an entertaining 30 minute walk through this sanctuary for wildlife to show you a mosaic of restored wildlife habitats and healthy vibrant landscape. You’ll see plenty of stunning examples of our beautifiul biodiversity – both flora and fauna. After the mini tour, we’ll demonstrate how to conduct a Flower Insect Timed Count and invite you to have a go! Finally, we’ll have a wonderful array of pondlife in sampling trays for you to identify with our easy to follow ID sheets.
This one hour experience connecting with the natural world will leave you wanting to come back for more, and inspired to take action!
We kindly ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your chosen tour time. Directions and other details will be emailed one week before the event.
