Bat and Moth Safari
From: €55.00
We’re excited to once again bring you a unique (adult only) combined Bat and Moth experience. We are delighted to be be joined by Bat expert Dr Niamh Roche from Bat Conservation Ireland whose breadth of knowledge of, and enthusiasm for bats will leave you wanting to know even more about these amazing nocturnal flying mammals!
As well as being batty about bats, we are also mad about moths at Wildacres. On this evening safari Brian O’Toole, Co-founder of Wildacres, will enthral you with fascinating stories about these stunning creatures and will show you plenty of species out on the nature reserve once darkness falls.
The event will start with refreshments in the big green barn on arrival, where we will introduce you to the wonderful world of bats and moths with a talk and plenty of audio visuals.
Following this we will head out into the nature reserve with bat detectors, enjoying the night sky, listening in on the ultrasonic calls of various native bat species (we have recorded 8 of Ireland’s 9 native bat species at Wildacres over the years), and hopefully getting to see plenty of them once our eyes adjust to the darkness. Following this we will check out the many nocturnal moths that live in the many and diverse habitats at Wildacres. Once back at the Barn we’ll enjoy some sweet and savoury snacks and a chat before departure after a nature filled evening.
