Creating A Nature Reserve (of any size!)

Whether you have your own garden, acres of land or a community space, this workshop will help you learn how to bring biodiversity back through managed rewilding. You will learn about several ways to do this, where to start, and the wonderful wildlife species you’d expect to return.

The workshop will include an indoor seated visual presentation in The Big Green Barn and an engaging and informative guided tour of Wildacres.

Wildacres is a multi-award-winning 17.5-acre nature reserve and biodiversity education centre teeming with wildlife, that was once 4 fields of heavily grazed pasture. Since 2017 Gilly Taylor and Brian O’Toole have transformed the land into a beautiful haven for wildlife by creating habitats for our native flora and fauna including:

  • 40+ wildlife ponds (kitchen sink size to football pitch size)
  • 8 acres of native woodland
  • 4 acres of native wildflower/wild grass meadow
  • 1-acre traditional orchard and tree nursery
  • 2km of native hedgerow
  • Almost 1 km of river riparian zone of the Redcross river, a stunning meandering stream
  • Many more biodiversity initiatives

Workshop includes a refreshment break for a Cuppa and Cookies seated overlooking the ¾ acre wildlife pond.

Duration: 3 hours

Group Size: maximum 16

Price: €75*

Minimum Age: 16 (under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult)
